CARBON DIOXIDE GAS - THE SILENT KILLLER
GAS SAFETY - STAY ALIVE
In 2009 15 people died and 234 suffered major injuries from carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. *HSE statistics.
Carbondioxide is the silent killer - you can't smell it and it quickly causes death or serious brain injury.
So what do you need to do to keep you and your family safe?
- Get a Carbondioxide alarm, just like a smoke alarm it will warn you before dangerous levels of gas are in the atmosphere allowing you to take immediate action and escape to safety. Open windows to get fresh air in - then get out.
- Ensure all of your gas appliances are inspected and serviced annually by a Gas Safe Registered Engineer (CORGI is no longer the authority).
- If you live in rented accommodation ensure that your Landlord has arranged for all gas appliances to be maintained, inspected and tested by a Gas Safe Registered engineer and get a copy of the gas safety certificate.
Don't take chances with CO2 - it kills.
