FARMER KILLED BY TRACTOR - EMPLOYEE FINED
A farm worker has killed his employer recently by reversing his tractor over him. The 73 year old farmer was killed as John Peter Metcalfe reversed his tractor at speed. Metcalfe had been warned on a number of occaisions about his speed but ignored the warnings.
When the HSE investigated the death they found a 4 metre long skid mark which meant that the tractor was being driven at 12mph. Metcalfe was listening to loud music at the time of the incident and although he felt an impact, he was unaware of what he had done.
Metcalfe was found guilty of breaching Section 7(a) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was fined £450.00 and ordered to pay £1000.00 costs. He had no previous related convictions and said that he deeply regretted his actions.
