LPG SAFETY BULLETIN

Bulk Gas Safety

If you have a bulk gas supply on your industrial premises then you need to be aware of the recent activity by the Health and Safety Executive.  Following a huge explosion in Glasgow involving corroded underground LPG pipes there has been much activity to ensure that there is no repeat of the incident. Many organisations will have completed the HSE bulk gas survey recently. It is very likely that you will be visited by the HSE to assess your LPG situation. If you have underground pipes it is likely that they will have to be replaced with Polyethylene ones.

The consultation paper, with its recommendations for improvement, published after the investigation into the Scottish tragedy can be found here http://consultations.hse.gov.uk/inovem/gf2.ti/f/10274/278629.1/pdf/-/cd224.pdf

Changing of the pipe work is likely to be a costly exercise and we recommend that you contact your supplier as soon as possible to see what your responsibilities and potential liabilities are.

Some Companies have already been served improvement notices requiring them to alter their pipework.
